“Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself.”
“...make the impossible possible, the possible easy, and the easy elegant.”

Moshe Feldenkrais and His Legacy

Moshe Feldekrais, the inventor of the method that bears his name, is highly quotable. These two quotes above capture the spirit, the essence the goal and the truch of the Feldenkrais Method. You can read these and others, and read more about Moshe Feldenkrais here.

What we Become Through Lack of Awareness

In our everyday life we overwhelmingly tend to move automatically, habitually - i.e. without moment-to-moment awareness of how we are making our body move to accomplish goals and tasks. This has some advantages. However, when we are doing something, anything, un-awarely, we become ignorant of what our body is good at and how it prefers to work in every situation that requires us to move in some way. From this ignorance, this body unconsciousness, comes rigidity, injury and strain, stiffness ... and so on. We end up becoming beings almost certainly NOT using our body optimally, naturally and to its full extent.

The Feldenkrais Method reverses all of this. Both our lack of awareness and our habitual body movemnet paterns that we cannot seem to undo “naturally”.

What We Learn with the Feldenkrais Method

The Feldemkrais Method uses movement, our growing awarenes of our own movement and the natural biological intelligence of our central nervous system to aid us in relearning how to move naturally - i.e. healthfully - in every activity that we do.

The Feldenkrais Method is educational. It's methods becomes theraptic as we come to undo and cast off our old ways of moving - restricted and often hurting - and relearn with freshnes the natural way to move our body, in both “small” and “large” movements. This “educational experience” is also naturally life giving - our physical and emotional energy (our joy in living) improves, often markedly, and our body becomes stronger, more flexible. In short, our body becomes more WISE. Not just as a temporary effect, but ongoingly. Working within the Feldenkrais Method reactivates the entire self

How Does a Feldenkrais Class or Lesson Work?

The Feldenkrais Method can be experience in two ways. Feldenkrais Functional Integration in an individual class where I guide you, by touch, through sequences of movements. In each lesson, you the student come to a deep, natural, physical awareness of how you have been moving in ways that have ultimately led to some form of “discomfort”. Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes are group classes where I verbally lead the group through patterns of minute movements of the key moving points of the body.

What is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner?

In North America, all Feldenkrais practitioners meeting the requirements are certified by the Feldenkrais Guild® of North America. The certification is of 800 hours of training, over the course of four years, in an accredited Feldenkrais Teachers Training Program. Additionally, I maintain my certification by meeting requirements set by the Guild for attending continuing education as a practitioner.
